Utilizing graphic imagery and in-your-face icons, my work stands screaming at whoever views it. I want to challenge my audience to think back to a time you almost forget. A time in your life where only the shapes and colors can be made out. Taking the time to sit with those thoughts, you can open up a vault of inspiration from the years of experience you have. I am able to piece together those flashes of memories, and I have arrived at my purpose.
As someone who finds it hard to put thoughts into words, I present to you my art. A familiar, yet foreign air surrounds my work, moving past the senses. Looking back to pictures and movies from my childhood that have since been left on the shelf, I expand on imagery that sticks with me. Soft, childlike textures and hues will fuel the creation of a dreamscape whilst standing alongside uncanny portraiture. Materials like fabric scraps and paper receipts, forgotten by most have been resurrected to piece together my own memories left behind. Graphic Art Nouveau esc 60s era music poster designs mixed with Surrealist compositions create a spatial proximity, challenging the viewer to question what is in front of them. I grasp at straws recounting my dreams, I play tug of war with my childhood, and yet the imagery and music I was exposed to while young has followed my work closely. As I age, the pieces I create call back to a time I crave; a time I cannot physically visit.
